This show was a blast. Sorry, I can't provide a song by song set of reviews. Rather, I can say that the place was packed and grooving hard. As with the TAB show in '11, Trey referenced the Tree, asking the crowd if they "remembered it." Big appreciation for that. He then talked up Portland a bit. Sand was huge and had the place spellbound. It was hypnotic.

A fun show by the TAB at the State Theater. The first set was a little laid back and had much less energy than the second set.

First set started out with some older tunes - Caymen Review, Alive Again, and then got into the new Traveler songs. I love Pigtail, and it was standard fun, then after a short Magilla a trio of new tunes - Scabbard, Frost and Corona. I love Scabbard, lots of textures and percussion make for an interesting song. The set wrapped with a solid take on Burlap Sack and Pumps, and then some slower paced Land of Nod, Dark and Down and Valentine. Trey told a long winded story about the promoter of the State, and how they used to book shows at Higher Ground in Vermont, which is where the first incarnation of TAB started. then they played the first song that version of TAB ever did - First Tube. The energy was high and a good sign of things to come.

Second set was a huge, high energy set. Solid playing and the band was hitting it hard for about an hour and 45 minutes straight. Started with a Curlew's Call, then into a standard Drifting. Money Love and Change was next and got stretched a bit with some solid horn playing. A small change of pace for Ooh Child which the crowd loved, and then into Goodbye Head. The intro sounds a lot like Divided Sky. The last half of the second set was pure fun, the band was loving it, the crowd was loving it, and the time passed all too quickly. Architect is one of my favourites from Traveler, and it was well played, then into a monster Sand. Not like the Sand we would see in the old days of TAB at 30+ mins, but this 15 minute version was full of quality playing and energy. A couple of quick covers were next -crowd favourite Clint Eastwood, and then Devil Went Down to Georgia which got people all fired up! A great (as usual) Push on 'Til The Day wrapped Set II.
Encores were a quick and mellow At the Gazebo, followed by a Heavy Things with Trey on acoustic, and one more cover for good measure - Sultans of Swing.

The show was a little uneven, probably not as end to end solid as the previous Fall's Boston Orpheum show, but the second site this night was the best I have seen TAB in years and years.

Dont know how this was my first Tab show....But let me tell you this...Tab is rocking out big time..Trey loves to play and it is showing this tour
